Five superbly reconditioned locomotives are the soul of Rovos Rail and a sight to gladden the heart of any railway enthusiast ...
Rovos Rail - The Pride of Africa has earned the international reputation for its truly world class travel experiences, providing unique train safaris in ultimate luxury, through some of the most spectacular scenery in Africa, in a series of journeys lasting from 24 hours to a fortnight. The Pride of Africa links some of Africa's greatest destinations from Cape Town at the tip of Africa to Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania, from scenic splendours as diverse as the game reserves of Mpumulanga to the Victoria Falls, from the deserts of Namibia and the stark beauty of the Karoo to the lush cane fields of Kwa-Zulu Natal and the magnificent garden route along the Cape South Coast.
The trains are hauled by steam, diesel or electric locomotives at various stages of the journey, carrying a maximum of 72 passengers in 36 superbly appointed suites. A highlight of the journey is a visit to the gracious colonial style railway station , Capital Park, Pretoria, which serves at the
new departure and arrival point for most routes.
The charming Victorian atmosphere of the exquisite pillared dining cars provide the perfect setting for the superb, yet simple and elegant cuisine served aboard the Pride of Africa. There is an accent on fresh local ingredients and traditional dishes such as game are a speciality. A full breakfast is cooked to order in conjunction with a tempting breakfast buffet. Lunch and Dinner include a starter and a choice of fish, meat or vegetarian dishes followed by a tempting desert, complemented by a selection of excellent South African wines.
The Observation Car seats 32 passengers and is positioned at the rear of the train. At the centre of the train we have, when numbers dictate, a non-smoking Lounge Car, which seats 26 passengers in comfort. In maintaining the spirit of a bygone era, there are no radios or television sets onboard.
